1960 Topps #418 Don Mossi
Cards #375-440 were printed on two back stocks, white and gray. White is the scarcer of the two, and the difference is the tint of the cardboard on the reverse — it is a stock variation, not a design change, so both backs read identically.

About Don Mossi
Don Mossi's 1960 Topps card, #418, catches him with the Detroit Tigers — the set's photo of his oversized ears and deadpan stare made it collector legend as the "ugliest baseball card ever." It exists with white or gray card stock on back, a Series 5 stock variation in which the white-back version runs scarcer. A left-handed control artist from Daly City, California, Mossi signed with Cleveland in 1949 and spent five minor-league seasons refining a three-finger grip before debuting in 1954, when he and roommate Ray Narleski formed one of the majors' first true lefty-righty bullpen tandems on the 111-win pennant-winning Indians. Traded to Detroit in the November 1958 deal that sent Billy Martin to Cleveland, Mossi finally got a rotation spot, going 17-9 in 1959 and posting a career-best 15-7, 2.96 ERA in 1961 for a 101-win Tigers club. A 1957 All-Star who struck out Eddie Mathews in that game, he finished with 101 wins, 50 saves and a 3.43 ERA across 12 seasons with Cleveland, Detroit, the White Sox and Kansas City. Teammates called him "Ears" for the obvious reason. He died in 2019 at 90, the last surviving pitcher from the 1954 Indians staff.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-08-20. Half grades fold down for both graders (8.5→8); PSA qualified slabs (OC, ST, PD, MC and the like) are not counted. Neither grader separates the white and gray back stocks on this card, so the counts below cover both. The Venezuelan issue, the 1960 Topps Tattoos and Bazooka are separate products and are not counted here.
