1960 Topps #417 Chuck Cottier
Cards #375-440 were printed on two back stocks, white and gray. White is the scarcer of the two, and the difference is the tint of the cardboard on the reverse — it is a stock variation, not a design change, so both backs read identically.

About Chuck Cottier
Charles Keith Cottier was born January 8, 1936, in Delta, Colorado, and starred in four sports — baseball, basketball, football and wrestling — at Grand Junction High School. He broke into the majors with the Milwaukee Braves on April 17, 1959, at age 23, and his 1960 Topps #417 issue, pulled from the high-numbered Series 5 run and found with either white or gray card stock, stands as his recognized rookie card. A sure-handed infielder who worked primarily at second base, Cottier posted a .973 fielding percentage over a nine-year career with the Braves (1959–60), Tigers (1961), Senators (1961–65) and Angels (1968–69), finishing with a .220 average, 348 hits and 19 home runs in 580 games. An Achilles tendon injury ended his playing days in May 1969. Cottier went on to manage the Seattle Mariners (1984–86) and coach for the Mets, Cubs, Orioles and Phillies before scouting for the Yankees. He died February 1, 2021, at age 85.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-08-20. Half grades fold down for both graders (8.5→8); PSA qualified slabs (OC, ST, PD, MC and the like) are not counted. Neither grader separates the white and gray back stocks on this card, so the counts below cover both. The Venezuelan issue, the 1960 Topps Tattoos and Bazooka are separate products and are not counted here.
