1960 Topps #372 Frank House

About Frank House
Henry Franklin House signed with the Detroit Tigers out of Hueytown High School in 1948, collecting a $75,000 bonus and two cars. The Bessemer, Alabama, catcher debuted in 1950, lost the 1952-53 seasons to military service, then anchored Detroit's receiving corps from 1954-57, batting .259 with a career-best 15 home runs in 1955. Traded to the Kansas City Athletics in 1958, he became the sixth player in major-league history to score twice in one inning as a pinch-hitter, doing so during an eight-run eighth on April 21 against Cleveland. Cincinnati picked him up for 1960, the season captured on his card #372, before he closed his career back in Detroit in 1961. Over ten seasons he hit .248 with 47 homers and a sturdy .988 fielding percentage. Nicknamed "Pig" since infancy — family lore has him twisting "big" into "pig" after being called "big as a house" as a baby — House later helped found the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame and was inducted there in 1975.
