1960 Topps #425 Johnny Podres
Cards #375-440 were printed on two back stocks, white and gray. White is the scarcer of the two, and the difference is the tint of the cardboard on the reverse — it is a stock variation, not a design change, so both backs read identically.

About Johnny Podres
Johnny Podres broke in with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1953 after signing as an amateur free agent and dominating Class D ball with a 21-3 record and league-leading 1.67 ERA for Hazard in 1951. The left-hander pitched for the Dodgers from 1953-1966 (missing 1956 to military service), then closed his career with Detroit (1966-67) and San Diego (1969), finishing 148-116 with a 3.68 ERA and 1,435 strikeouts across 15 seasons. A four-time All-Star, he led the NL with a 2.66 ERA in 1957. His signature moment came October 4, 1955: a complete-game 2-0 shutout in Game 7 of the World Series that gave Brooklyn its only championship and earned him the first-ever World Series MVP award. He added three more titles with the Dodgers (1959, 1963, 1965), going a combined 4-1 with a 2.11 ERA in Series play. A statue of Podres now stands outside the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, commemorating that 1955 triumph. His 1960 Topps card, #425, was printed on Series 5 stock and is known with both white and gray backs, the white variation notably scarcer.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-08-20. Half grades fold down for both graders (8.5→8); PSA qualified slabs (OC, ST, PD, MC and the like) are not counted. Neither grader separates the white and gray back stocks on this card, so the counts below cover both. The Venezuelan issue, the 1960 Topps Tattoos and Bazooka are separate products and are not counted here.
