1960 Topps #399 Young Hill Stars
On this card: Milt Pappas, Jack Fisher, Jerry Walker
Cards #375-440 were printed on two back stocks, white and gray. White is the scarcer of the two, and the difference is the tint of the cardboard on the reverse — it is a stock variation, not a design change, so both backs read identically.

About this card
This is one of the eleven combo cards scattered through the 1960 Topps set, each pairing two or three players under a nickname headline rather than giving one man his own card.
The players on this card
"Young Hill Stars" paired three homegrown Orioles righties who had all just turned 21 and were anchoring the majors' youngest starting rotation, the "Kiddie Korps" that carried Baltimore to a surprise second-place finish behind the Yankees in 1960. Milt Pappas, a bonus baby signed out of a Detroit high school in 1957, was already the staff's most polished arm, following a 15-9, 3.27-ERA 1959 with 15-11 and three shutouts in 1960; he went on to win 209 games over 17 seasons and was later traded to Cincinnati for Frank Robinson. "Fat Jack" Fisher broke through in 1960 at 12-11 with three shutouts, then closed the season by serving up Ted Williams's career-ending home run. Jerry Walker peaked in 1959, becoming, at 20, the youngest pitcher ever to start a major-league All-Star Game and winning it, then throwing a 16-inning shutout that September before a quieter 1960.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-08-20. Half grades fold down for both graders (8.5→8); PSA qualified slabs (OC, ST, PD, MC and the like) are not counted. Neither grader separates the white and gray back stocks on this card, so the counts below cover both. The Venezuelan issue, the 1960 Topps Tattoos and Bazooka are separate products and are not counted here.
