About Darold Knowles
Darold Knowles left the University of Missouri to sign with the Orioles in February 1961, then spent five seasons in Baltimore's farm system before debuting in 1965. Traded to Philadelphia and then Washington, the left-hander became a bullpen workhorse for the Senators, earning his only All-Star nod in 1969 under Ted Williams and piling up a career-high 27 saves in 1970. Dealt to Oakland in 1971, Knowles helped anchor the A's dynasty, winning back-to-back World Series titles in 1973 and 1974. In the 1973 Series against the Mets he became the only pitcher ever to appear in all seven games, closing out both Game One and the clincher without allowing a run. His 1975 Topps card catches him fresh off that run, having moved to the Cubs, where he pitched two seasons before finishing his sixteen-year career with the Rangers, Expos and Cardinals.
