About Dick Bosman

Richard Allen Bosman signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1963, then passed through the Giants' system before Washington's December 1964 draft brought him to the Senators, for whom he debuted on June 1, 1966. He developed into the Senators/Rangers' ace, leading the American League with a 2.19 ERA in 1969 and winning a career-high 16 games in 1970, a run that included a one-hitter against Minnesota broken up only by César Tovar's leadoff single. Traded to Cleveland on May 10, 1973, Bosman authored the signature moment of his career on July 19, 1974, no-hitting the defending champion Oakland Athletics, missing a perfect game only because of his own throwing error on a fourth-inning bunt. Pictured with the Indians on this 1975 Topps card, Bosman was dealt to Oakland, the very team he'd no-hit, and helped the A's to a division title that season. He finished with 82 wins and 757 strikeouts, then spent three decades as a respected pitching coach for the White Sox, Orioles, Rangers, and Rays.
