About Bruce Ellingsen
Harold Bruce Ellingsen, a left-handed pitcher out of Lakewood High School in Southern California, was chosen by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 63rd round of the 1967 draft and spent six full seasons working through their farm system. On April 3, 1974, Cleveland acquired him in a trade that sent 17-year-old Pedro Guerrero the other way — a deal that looked even at the time but became one of the most lopsided of the decade as Guerrero blossomed into a five-time All-Star. Ellingsen reached the majors that July, going 1-1 with a 3.21 ERA in 16 relief and spot-start appearances for the Indians. His two starts came against the Yankees in late September: a tough-luck 2-1 loss at Shea Stadium on a Bobby Murcer homer, then a rocky final outing six days later at Cleveland Stadium. He returned to the minors in 1975 and retired after that season, his lone major-league year captured on card #288 of the 1975 Topps set, his rookie card.
