1975 Topps #552 Jack Brohamer

About Jack Brohamer
Card #552 in the 1975 Topps set shows Jack Brohamer in his final season with the Cleveland Indians, the club that drafted him in the 34th round out of Huntington Beach High School in 1967. A stocky, hard-nosed second baseman often compared to Eddie Stanky, he was nicknamed "Scrappy Jack" for his reckless style and "The Hammer" as a shorthand for his surname. He broke in during 1972 and, after belting back-to-back home runs off Bert Blyleven that June, was named to both the Topps and Baseball Digest All-Star Rookie teams. His best season came in 1974, when he hit a career-high .270 and led American League second basemen in fielding. Traded to the Chicago White Sox that December for Larvell Blanks, Brohamer later hit for the cycle against Seattle on September 24, 1977, and signed with Boston as a free agent before finishing his nine-year career back in Cleveland in 1980.
