About Jackie Brown

Jackie Brown broke into the majors as a right-handed pitcher with the Washington Senators, debuting July 2, 1970, then stayed with the franchise as it relocated to Texas and became the Rangers. Back in the rotation by 1973, he authored his best season in 1974, going 13-12 with a 3.57 ERA over 216 2/3 innings for the Rangers — the club shown on his 1975 Topps card. Brown was traded to Cleveland during the 1975 season, then dealt to Montreal for Andre Thornton in December 1976. He closed out his career with the Expos in 1977, beating Steve Carlton on Opening Day in Philadelphia and pitching in the first game ever played at Olympic Stadium. Across seven seasons (1970-71, 1973-77) he went 47-53 with a 4.18 ERA and 516 strikeouts. After retiring as a player, Brown became a pitching coach for the Rangers, White Sox, and Devil Rays. His older brother, Paul Brown, also pitched in the majors.
