1975 Topps #470 Jeff Burroughs

About Jeff Burroughs
Jeff Burroughs arrived in pro ball as the No. 1 overall pick of the 1969 draft, taken by the Washington Senators out of Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California. He debuted with Washington in 1970, moved with the franchise to Texas in 1972, and blossomed into one of the American League's most feared sluggers. In 1974 he hit .301 with a league-leading 118 RBIs and 25 home runs, earning AL MVP honors — the first Ranger, and the first player from an expansion franchise, to win the award. His 1975 Topps cards capture that peak: the printed All-Star flag on his base card (#470) marks his selection to the 1974 All-Star Game, the League Leaders card (#308) recaps his RBI crown, and he headlines the "1974 MVPs" subset card (#212) alongside the National League's winner. Traded to Atlanta after the 1976 season, Burroughs made a second All-Star team in 1978 and clubbed 41 homers in 1977. He played 16 seasons through 1985 with Washington/Texas, Atlanta, Seattle, Oakland and Toronto, finishing with 240 home runs, and later coached his son Sean's Long Beach Little League teams to back-to-back World Series titles in 1992 and 1993.
