About Jim Fuller
James Hardy Fuller was born November 28, 1950, in Bethesda, Maryland, and became one of the most fearsome sluggers in the Orioles' famously stacked farm system. Selected by Baltimore in the second round of the January 1970 draft, the 6-foot-3 right-handed outfielder was Florida State League Player of the Year in 1971, then torched International League pitching at Triple-A Rochester in 1973 with tape-measure blasts, including a legendary shot at Silver Stadium estimated at 700 feet. He debuted with the Orioles on September 10, 1973, and played there through 1974 before finishing his career with the 1977 Houston Astros. Teammates nicknamed him "Cheyenne," after the 1950s TV western starring muscleman Clint Walker, and his own 1975 Topps card touted his rifle arm as among the strongest in the Orioles' chain. Strikeout-prone against major-league pitching, Fuller hit just .194 with 11 homers in 107 games — far short of the power that produced 170 home runs in the minors.
