1975 Topps #247 Enos Cabell

About Enos Cabell
Enos Milton Cabell was born October 8, 1949, in Fort Riley, Kansas, and starred at Gardena High School and Los Angeles Harbor College before Baltimore signed him as an amateur free agent in 1968. He debuted with the Orioles on September 17, 1972, and his 1975 Topps card (#247) pictures him in Baltimore's uniform — already dealt to Houston that December, in the deal that sent Lee May to the Orioles. Cabell became a fixture at third and first for the Astros, earning the club's BBWAA Most Valuable Player award in 1978 and helping Houston capture its first National League West title and postseason berth in 1980. He later played for San Francisco, Detroit, and the Dodgers, closing a 15-year career in 1986 with a .277 average, 1,647 hits, 60 home runs, and 238 stolen bases over 1,688 games. Despite Bill James once ranking him among players who "can't play baseball," Cabell's durability spoke for itself; he went on to serve as a special assistant to the Astros' general manager.
