About Baltimore Orioles

The 1975 Topps team card catches the Orioles mid-run under Earl Weaver, who had already delivered three straight pennants (1969-71) and the 1970 World Series title to Baltimore. Weaver's club won 90 games and stayed in the American League East race deep into September, ultimately finishing 4½ games behind the Boston Red Sox after a decisive doubleheader sweep by the Yankees at Shea Stadium on the next-to-last day of the season. The offseason had reshaped the roster: Ken Singleton and Mike Torrez arrived from Montreal for Dave McNally and Rich Coggins, while Lee May came from Houston in the Enos Cabell trade. Jim Palmer anchored the staff, winning his second Cy Young Award with 23 wins, a 2.09 ERA, and ten shutouts. Brooks Robinson, Bobby Grich, Mark Belanger, and Don Baylor rounded out a lineup that kept Baltimore in contention all summer.
