1975 Topps #390 Ron Cey

About Ron Cey
Ronald Charles Cey grew up in Tacoma, Washington, a three-sport star at Mount Tahoma High School before playing at Washington State University, where head coach Chuck "Bobo" Brayton hung the nickname "the Penguin" on him for his waddling running gait. The Dodgers landed him in the 1968 secondary draft, and by June 1973 he had claimed third base for good, joining Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes, and Bill Russell in an infield that started together for eight and a half consecutive years. Card #390 carries the All-Star flag Cey earned for 1974, the first of six straight selections (1974-79). He anchored the hot corner through four National League pennants, capped by the 1981 World Series, where his Game 6 return after being beaned by a Goose Gossage fastball helped Los Angeles finish off the Yankees; he shared Series MVP honors with Steve Yeager and Pedro Guerrero. Traded to the Cubs in 1983, Cey helped Chicago to the 1984 NL East title before closing out his career with Oakland in 1987, finishing with 316 home runs and 1,139 RBIs.
