About Don McKenney

Don McKenney's lone rookie-year card is a Topps exclusive — Parkhurst never printed him through 1954-55, making #35 his first mainstream card and the only way to collect his debut. Signed as a teenager by Bruins scout Harold Cotton, the Smiths Falls, Ontario centre captained the Barrie Flyers to the 1953 Memorial Cup, then jumped from AHL Hershey to Boston in 1954-55 and led the Bruins in scoring with 42 points, finishing second to Ed Litzenberger in Calder Trophy voting. A clean, elegant two-way pivot, he played six straight All-Star Games, won the 1959-60 Lady Byng while leading the NHL with 49 assists, and wore Boston's 'C' in 1961. Dealt to the Rangers midway through 1962-63, he found one last spotlight in Toronto — 12 points in 12 playoff games as the Leafs won the 1964 Stanley Cup, his lone NHL title. He closed with 582 points over 798 games across five teams, and in 2023 Boston named him one of its 100 greatest Bruins.
