1960 Topps #93 Art Schult

About Art Schult
Arthur William Schult broke into pro ball in 1948, signing with the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent out of Georgetown University. A 6-foot-3 outfielder and first baseman, he lost two seasons to the Korean War as a draftee before returning to find his power stroke, batting .300 for the Seattle Rainiers of the Pacific Coast League in 1955. He reached the majors as a Yankee pinch-runner in 1953, then logged real playing time with the Cincinnati Redlegs and Washington Senators in 1956-57, his best season coming in '57 with four home runs and 39 RBIs split between the two clubs. Schult closed his career with the Chicago Cubs in 1959-60, appearing in just 12 games in his final season before retiring after ten years in the minors. His 1960 Topps card, #93, captures that farewell year in a Cubs uniform. He finished with a .264 average across 164 big-league games.
