About this card

Cards #455-470 are the coaches subset, unique to 1960 - each card stacks three or four of a club's coaches on a single front, a format Topps never repeated.

The players on this card

Card #460 gathers the Cleveland coaching staff serving under manager Joe Gordon (and, after an August trade, Jimmy Dykes) in 1960. Mel Harder, who won 223 games as an Indians right-hander from 1928-1947, had coached Cleveland's pitching staff since 1948, guiding the Feller-Lemon-Wynn-Garcia rotations that won the 1948 World Series and 1954 pennant. Bob Lemon, the future Hall of Famer who went 207-128 anchoring that same rotation and no-hit Detroit in 1948, retired as a player in 1958 and worked as an Indians scout and part-time coach in 1959-60. Jo-Jo White, a longtime Pacific Coast League outfielder and Joe Gordon confidant, briefly became Cleveland's manager himself: when Gordon was traded to Detroit for Dykes on August 3, 1960, White piloted the club to a 7-4 win over Washington in his only big-league game as skipper. Infielder Red Kress, a .286 hitter over 14 seasons, closed out an eight-year run (1953-60) as Indians coach, prized for his tireless batting-practice arm. Lemon entered the Hall of Fame in 1976.
