About Marv Breeding

Marv Breeding broke in with the Baltimore Orioles in 1960 after signing with the club out of Samford University in 1955, quickly earning a reputation for slick glove work at second base. His rookie season was the best of his four-year career: a .267 average, career-high 147 hits, 69 runs, and 43 RBI while manning second full-time for Baltimore, with his 117 singles ranking ninth in the American League. Breeding's #525 1960 Topps card is a recognized rookie issue, made scarcer by its place among the set's short-printed high numbers. He spent three seasons in Baltimore before a 1963 trade sent him to the expansion Washington Senators, then to the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he served as a reserve infielder and sat on the bench for the club's 1963 World Series sweep of the Yankees. Breeding finished with a .250 career average and later ran a machine shop in his native Decatur, Alabama.
