1960 Topps #302 Philadelphia Phillies
Philadelphia Phillies team card — carries the series checklist on the back.

About this card
The sixteen team cards pair a club photo with a team record box, and their backs carry the printed checklist for a run of the set.
The players on this card
The Phillies' 1960 team card arrived during the shortest managerial tenure in franchise history. Eddie Sawyer, back for a second stint after guiding the 1950 Whiz Kids to the pennant, quit after a single game — a 9–4 Opening Day loss to Cincinnati — telling reporters, "I'm 49 years old and I want to live to be 50." Coach Andy Cohen ran the club for one contest, a 5–4 win over Milwaukee, closing his only big-league managerial turn with a perfect record before Gene Mauch arrived from the Minneapolis Millers to take over. Mauch's rebuilding project showed little right away: Philadelphia went 59–95, tumbling to eighth place, 36 games behind the World Series champion Pittsburgh Pirates. Robin Roberts anchored a thin rotation at 12–16, while a December trade sending Gene Freese to the White Sox for outfielder Johnny Callison began stocking the young talent Mauch would build around at Connie Mack Stadium.
