About Atlanta Braves

The 1975 Topps team card catches the Braves in their first season without Hank Aaron, traded to Milwaukee the previous November after 21 years in the organization. Clyde King, who had righted the club with a 38-25 finish after taking over in 1974, managed the first 134 games but was fired August 29 with Atlanta 31 1/2 games behind Cincinnati; coach Connie Ryan closed out the schedule at 9-18 as the team finished 67-94, fifth in the NL West. The offseason also produced a strange footnote: newly acquired slugger Dick Allen refused to report and was dealt to Philadelphia in May without ever playing a game in a Braves uniform. On the field, Darrell Evans (22 homers, 73 RBI), Ralph Garr (.278) and Dusty Baker (19 homers) carried the offense, while knuckleballer Phil Niekro logged 275 innings and Carl Morton won a team-high 17 games.
