About Frank Tepedino

Frank Ronald Tepedino, a left-handed-hitting first baseman from Brooklyn, was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles out of George W. Wingate High School in 1965, then taken by the Yankees in the 1966 first-year draft. He debuted for New York on May 12, 1967, pinch-hitting for Whitey Ford. The Yankees dealt him to the Milwaukee Brewers for Danny Walton in June 1971, then reacquired him the next spring, before trading him to Atlanta with Wayne Nordhagen for Pat Dobson in June 1973. His best season followed that year, a .304 average over 74 games for the Braves. His 1975 Topps card, #9, marked his final big-league season -- he appeared in just eight games, finishing his eight-year career on April 29 against the Dodgers with a .241 average, 6 home runs, and 58 RBI. Tepedino later became an NYC Fire Patrol firefighter, working Ground Zero after September 11, 2001, and was inducted into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame in 2004.
