About Rick Auerbach
Frederick Steven Auerbach was born February 15, 1950, in Woodland Hills, California. He passed on a 1968 draft pick from the California Angels to play at Los Angeles Pierce College, then signed with the Seattle Pilots organization in 1969. A right-handed-hitting shortstop, he reached the majors with the Milwaukee Brewers on April 13, 1971, and logged a career-high 153 games in 1972. Traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1973, he backed up Bill Russell and Davey Lopes and doubled in his only at-bat of the 1974 NLCS. An injury to Russell handed Auerbach the starting shortstop job for much of the first half of 1975, the season pictured on his card. Dealt to Cincinnati in 1977, he was a reserve infielder on the Reds' 1979 NL West championship club before finishing his eleven-year career with the Seattle Mariners in 1981, a .220 hitter over 624 games.
