About Bob Hansen

Robert Joseph Hansen was born May 26, 1948, in Boston, Massachusetts, and starred at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he also played four summers (1966-1969) in the Cape Cod Baseball League — three with the Cotuit Kettleers, one with the Orleans Cardinals — earning three all-star nods and, in 2008, induction into the Cape Cod League Hall of Fame. Drafted by the Seattle Pilots in the 21st round of the 1969 MLB draft, Hansen stayed with the franchise through its move to Milwaukee. A left-handed-hitting first baseman and designated hitter, he debuted with the Brewers on May 10, 1974, and batted .295 with two home runs over 58 games — the rookie season captured on his 1975 Topps card (#508). He appeared in 24 more games for Milwaukee in 1976 before closing out his playing career in Japan with the Crown Lighter Lions from 1977 to 1978.
