About Pedro Garcia
Pedro Modesto García, a right-handed-hitting second baseman from Guayama, Puerto Rico, signed with the Seattle Pilots organization in 1969 and broke into the majors with the Milwaukee Brewers on April 6, 1973. Handed the starting job after Ron Theobald's departure, García hit .245 with 15 home runs and 54 RBIs as a rookie, leading the American League with 32 doubles and finishing runner-up to Al Bumbry in AL Rookie of the Year voting — while also leading AL second basemen with 27 errors. His 1975 Topps card, #147, catches him in his third Brewers season, a year in which he split time with Kurt Bevacqua and Bob Sheldon but still led the league's second basemen with a .985 fielding percentage and tied Robin Yount for the team lead in steals. Milwaukee dealt him to Detroit in June 1976; he later played for Toronto's 1977 expansion Blue Jays before finishing his pro career in the Mexican League.
