1975 Topps #99 Mike Hegan

About Mike Hegan
Mike Hegan signed with the Yankees in August 1961, turning down more lucrative offers from other clubs, and debuted with New York in 1964 in the same Yankee Stadium where he had once worked as a batboy for his father, longtime Indians catcher Jim Hegan. The left-handed first baseman/outfielder joined the expansion Seattle Pilots in 1969 and hit the new franchise's first home run in its inaugural game; he was named to that year's All-Star team, though injury kept him off the field. When the Pilots became the Brewers, Hegan set an American League record with a 178-game errorless streak at first base. Dealt to Oakland, he won a World Series ring with the 1972 A's before returning to Milwaukee, where on September 3, 1976, he became the first Brewer to hit for the cycle. His 1975 Topps card, issued during that second Milwaukee stint, catches him mid-career on the way to a .242 average with 53 homers and 229 RBI over 12 seasons. He later broadcast for the Brewers and Indians for 35 years.
