About Robin Yount
Robin Yount was Milwaukee's third overall pick in the 1973 draft, one slot ahead of fellow Hall of Famer Dave Winfield, and reached the Brewers as an 18-year-old shortstop on April 5, 1974 — the debut pictured on his key 1975 Topps rookie card, #223, of an 18-year-old already in the majors to stay. Broadcaster Bob Uecker dubbed him "the Kid," a name that stuck through a 20-year career spent entirely in Milwaukee. Yount anchored shortstop before shifting to center field in 1985 after shoulder surgery, and made three All-Star teams (1980, 1982, 1983). He carried the Brewers to their only World Series in 1982, batting .414 with two four-hit games — a Series first — and won AL MVP that season. A second MVP in 1989, earned as an outfielder, made him just the third player ever to win the award at two positions. On September 9, 1992, he became the 17th member of the 3,000-hit club, finishing with 3,142 hits and a .285 average. Yount entered the Hall of Fame in 1999 on his first ballot. His rookie card remains one of the set's true keys: only six PSA 10s exist among more than 10,000 graded.
