About Jim Colborn

A 1967 free-agent signee out of Whittier College, the right-hander made his big-league debut with the Chicago Cubs in 1969 after also studying and pitching at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Traded to Milwaukee for Jose Cardenal in December 1971, Colborn became the franchise's first 20-game winner in 1973, going 20-12 with a 3.18 ERA and earning his lone All-Star selection, a season this 1975 Topps #305 card reflects during his Brewers tenure. After three losing seasons in Milwaukee, he was dealt to Kansas City with Darrell Porter and won 18 games for the 1977 AL West champions. On May 14 of that year he no-hit the Texas Rangers 6-0, the first no-hitter thrown by a Royal at Royals Stadium. He closed his career in 1978 with Kansas City and Seattle, finishing 83-88 with a 3.80 ERA and 688 strikeouts, and later spent years as a big-league pitching coach under Jim Tracy in Los Angeles and Pittsburgh.
