About Don Money
Don Money broke in with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1968, debuting at shortstop before shifting to third base as the Phillies made room for prospects like Larry Bowa. Originally signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates as an amateur free agent in 1965 out of La Plata (Maryland) High School, Money reached Philadelphia in a trade for Jim Bunning. On October 31, 1972, with Mike Schmidt ready to take over third base, the Phillies sent Money to the Milwaukee Brewers in a seven-player deal for pitcher Jim Lonborg. Money became a fixture in Milwaukee for eleven seasons, earning four All-Star selections (1974, 1976-1978) and starting the 1978 All-Star Game, the first Brewer ever to do so. Known as one of the game's finest defensive third basemen, he set the major-league record for consecutive errorless games at the position (78) in 1974 and finished with a career .975 fielding percentage. He helped Milwaukee reach its only World Series, a seven-game loss to St. Louis in 1982. Money was inducted into the Milwaukee Brewers Walk of Fame in 2005.
