About Jerry Reuss
Jerry Reuss, a hard-throwing left-hander from St. Louis, arrived in Pittsburgh in an October 1973 trade that sent catcher Milt May to Houston. He became a fixture of the Pirates' rotation, posting winning records in each of his first three seasons (1974-76), and his 1975 Topps card catches him at his Pittsburgh peak: an 18-11 mark and 2.54 ERA that year earned him his first All-Star selection, and he started that summer's All-Star Game, working three scoreless innings. Traded to the Dodgers before 1979, Reuss authored the best stretch of his career there, throwing a June 1980 no-hitter against the Giants that missed perfection only on a fielding error, and helping Los Angeles beat the Yankees in the 1981 World Series, winning Game 5 himself. He pitched 22 big-league seasons for eight clubs, finishing with 220 wins - the second pitcher ever, after Milt Pappas, to reach 200 without a 20-win season.
