About Ken Singleton
Ken Singleton's 1975 Topps card catches him with the Montreal Expos, the second of his three National League stops before he became a Baltimore icon. A first-round pick of the Mets in 1967 out of Mount Vernon, New York, Singleton reached the majors in 1970 and was traded to Montreal in 1972 in the deal that sent Rusty Staub to New York. His finest Expos season came in 1973, when the switch-hitting outfielder batted .302 with 23 home runs and 103 RBI while leading the league in on-base percentage. Dealt to Baltimore after the 1974 season, Singleton blossomed into a three-time All-Star, helping the Orioles to pennants in 1979 and 1983 and to the 1983 World Series title as designated hitter. He finished runner-up for AL MVP in 1979 with career highs of 35 homers and 111 RBI, won the 1982 Roberto Clemente Award, and closed his 15-year career with a .282 average, 2,029 hits and 246 home runs.
