About Chuck Taylor

Charles Gilbert Taylor was a right-handed reliever pictured on his Montreal Expos card. Out of Bell Buckle High School and Middle Tennessee State University, he signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1961, spent three years in their system, and was traded to Houston in 1964 before a 1965 deal brought him back to St. Louis. After a strong 1968 season at Tulsa, he made his major-league debut with the Cardinals on May 27, 1969. He pitched for St. Louis through 1971, was dealt to the New York Mets, then claimed off waivers by the Milwaukee Brewers in 1972. Montreal signed him in 1973, and 1974 proved the best year of his career: 61 relief appearances, a 2.17 ERA, and 11 saves, fifth-most in the National League. Card #58 catches him a season later, still anchoring the Expos bullpen. Taylor closed out his eight-year career in Montreal in 1976, finishing 28–20 with a 3.07 ERA and 282 strikeouts in 607 innings. He died in 2018 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
