About Montreal Expos
The 1975 Topps team card catches the Expos in Gene Mauch's seventh and final season in Montreal, closing out his run as the franchise's original manager since its 1969 debut; he would take over the Minnesota Twins that winter. Montreal went 75-87, tied for fifth in the NL East and 17½ games behind the champion Pittsburgh Pirates. The front office overhauled the roster that offseason, sending Mike Torrez and Ken Singleton to Baltimore for Dave McNally and Rich Coggins, trading Tom Walker and Terry Humphrey to Detroit for veteran lefty Woodie Fryman, and dealing Willie Davis to Texas for Don Stanhouse and Pete Mackanin. The season's real story was 21-year-old Gary Carter, who split his rookie year between right field and behind the plate, hit .270 with 17 home runs and a team-high 68 RBI, made the NL All-Star team, and finished runner-up to John Montefusco for NL Rookie of the Year.
