About Ron Fairly

Ron Fairly's 1975 Topps card catches him mid-career with the Montreal Expos, five years into a second act that revived a career many thought was fading. Signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers out of USC after helping the Trojans win the 1958 College World Series, the left-handed-hitting first baseman/outfielder debuted that September and won three World Series rings with Los Angeles (1959, 1963, 1965), batting .379 with two homers in the 1965 Fall Classic to earn the nickname "Mr. Clutch." Traded to the expansion Expos in June 1969, he became Montreal's most reliable bat for six seasons, making his first All-Star team in 1973. He later split time between St. Louis, Oakland, Toronto and California before retiring in 1978 with 1,913 hits and 215 home runs over 21 seasons. Fairly then spent 27 years as a broadcaster for the Angels, Giants and Mariners. He died in 2019 at age 81.
