About John Morris
John Wallace Morris, a left-handed pitcher from Lewes, Delaware, signed with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1960 and worked five and a half years through their farm system before debuting in the majors in July 1966. A reliever for most of his career, he pitched for the Phillies, Orioles, Seattle Pilots/Milwaukee Brewers, and San Francisco Giants across eight seasons, finishing 11-7 with a 3.95 ERA in 132 games. His signature stretch came in May 1970 with Milwaukee, when he threw both complete games of his career on consecutive starts, beating the Yankees and then outdueling Catfish Hunter and the Athletics. Card #577 in the 1975 Topps set catches him with the Giants, capping a three-year run in San Francisco (1972-74) that closed out his big-league career. Morris was later inducted into the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame in 1987. He died in Scottsdale, Arizona, in October 2025 at age 84.
