About Larry Milbourne
Larry Milbourne signed with Baltimore in 1969 out of Millville High School and Cumberland County College in his native Port Norris, New Jersey, then worked through the Giants' and Angels' systems before Houston took him from the Cardinals' Tulsa farm club in the December 1973 Rule 5 draft. He debuted for the Astros on April 6, 1974, and hit .279 as a switch-hitting rookie who covered second, short, and third, earning a spot on the Topps All-Star Rookie Team - the honor his 1975 Topps rookie card, #512, carries with its trophy flag. After three seasons in Houston he moved on to Seattle, then New York, Minnesota, Cleveland, and Philadelphia across an 11-year, six-franchise career built on glove and versatility rather than power. His signature moment came as the Yankees' starting shortstop in the 1981 World Series: his fifth-inning double in Game 2 was New York's only extra-base hit and drove in the game's first run of a 3-0 win over the Dodgers. He retired in 1984 with a .254 average in 989 games.
