About Pete LaCock
Ralph Pierre "Pete" LaCock Jr. broke into pro ball as the Chicago Cubs' first-round pick (20th overall) in the 1970 January draft out of William Howard Taft High School. He led the Texas League in walks with San Antonio in 1971 and debuted in the majors on September 6, 1972. His 1975 Topps card, #494, is his recognized rookie card, issued the same year he delivered his career-defining moment: a grand slam off Bob Gibson on September 3, 1975, the future Hall of Famer's final major-league appearance. A left-handed-hitting first baseman/outfielder, LaCock split nine seasons between the Cubs (1972-76) and Kansas City Royals (1977-80), hitting a career-best .303 in 1977 and .295 in 1978, and finished with a .257 average, 27 home runs and 224 RBI over 715 games before a season in Japan with the Yokohama Taiyo Whales. He is the son of "Hollywood Squares" host Peter Marshall and nephew of actress Joanne Dru.
