About Terry Crowley

Terrence Michael Crowley was born February 16, 1947, in Staten Island, New York, and starred at Curtis High School before playing at Long Island University. The Orioles drafted him in the 11th round in 1966, and after a 28-homer season at Triple-A Rochester, the left-handed hitter debuted with Baltimore in September 1969. Splitting time between the outfield and first base, "Crow" became the Orioles' first-ever designated hitter in 1973 and developed into one of the game's premier pinch-hitters, finishing his 15-year career with 108 pinch-hits, among the most in major-league history. He won a World Series ring with the 1970 Orioles, then, after Cincinnati claimed him off waivers in spring 1974, another with the Reds in 1975 -- the season and club shown on this card, in which he hit .268 in a reserve role. Crowley later played for Atlanta and Montreal before retiring in 1983, then spent parts of three decades coaching hitters for the Orioles and Twins, adding a third championship ring as Minnesota's hitting coach in 1991.
