About Von Joshua

Von Everett Joshua, a left-handed hitting outfielder out of Oakland's Chabot College, was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the first round of the 1967 January draft but signed instead with the Los Angeles Dodgers. His 1975 Topps card (#547) shows him as a Dodger, reflecting the 1974 season in which he helped Los Angeles win the National League pennant; in that year's World Series loss to the Oakland Athletics, Joshua went 0-for-4 as a pinch hitter, grounding out against Rollie Fingers for the Series' final out. Dealt to San Francisco for 1975, he turned in his best season, batting .318 with 10 triples for the Giants. He later played for the Milwaukee Brewers, returned to the Dodgers in 1979, and closed his ten-year, .273-average career with the San Diego Padres in 1980. Joshua went on to a long coaching career, serving as the Chicago Cubs' hitting coach in 2009.
