1960 Topps #114 Ken Aspromonte

About Ken Aspromonte
Ken Aspromonte broke in with the 1957 Boston Red Sox after batting .334 to win the Pacific Coast League batting crown with the San Francisco Seals. Brooklyn-born and the elder brother of 13-year National League third baseman Bob Aspromonte, he was dealt to Washington in 1958, and his 1960 Topps card catches him with the Senators just weeks before a May 15 trade sent him to Cleveland, where he had his best season, hitting .290 with 10 home runs. Left exposed that fall, he was drafted by the expansion Los Angeles Angels and started at second base in their first American League game. Stops with Cleveland again, Milwaukee and the Cubs closed out a seven-year career (.249, 19 home runs, 124 RBI) before three productive seasons in Japan with the Chunichi Dragons and Taiyo Whales. Aspromonte later managed the Indians from 1972 to 1974, going 220-260 and nearly rallying the club into contention in 1974 before a September collapse — and Frank Robinson's looming arrival — ended his tenure.
