About Bob Coluccio

An outfielder out of Centralia, Washington, Coluccio was drafted by the Seattle Pilots in the 17th round of the 1969 draft and turned down work at his father's gravel company to sign for $500 a month. After a 1971 hiatus to get married and a detour through the Phillies' system, he returned to the Brewers and, following a spring-training injury to Dave May, broke camp with Milwaukee in 1973. His speed and popularity with the city's Italian-American fans earned him the nickname "Macaroni Pony" from broadcasters Bob Uecker and Merle Harmon. This 1975 Topps card, #456, catches him in a Brewers uniform just weeks before he was dealt to the White Sox for Bill Sharp that May. Coluccio also played for the Cardinals in 1978, finishing a five-year career with a .220 average, 26 home runs and 114 RBI, 35 games shy of a pension. He later settled in Centralia and worked in luxury real estate.
