About Bob Moose

Bob Moose signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates days after graduating from Franklin Regional High School in Export, Pennsylvania, in 1965, and reached the majors two years later, debuting on September 19, 1967. The right-hander spent his entire ten-year career with Pittsburgh, earning the club's Rookie of the Year honors in 1968 before his finest season in 1969, when he went 14-3 with a 2.91 ERA and no-hit the eventual World Series champion New York Mets on September 20. Moose helped the Pirates win five NL East titles between 1970 and 1975 and the 1971 World Series. He is also remembered for the wild pitch that ended Pittsburgh's bid for a second straight pennant, allowing the winning run in the deciding Game 5 of the 1972 NLCS against Cincinnati. He finished with a 76-71 record, a 3.50 ERA and 827 strikeouts over 289 games. Issued the year before Moose died in a car accident on his 29th birthday, this 1975 Topps card is among his final issues.
