About Charlie Moore
Charles William Moore Jr. was born June 21, 1953, in Birmingham, Alabama, where he starred at quarterback before turning down a football scholarship to Auburn after the Brewers took him in the fifth round of the 1971 draft. He debuted in the majors on September 8, 1973, and by the time his 1975 Topps card (#636) hit shelves he had claimed Milwaukee's catching job, batting .290 in 73 games that season. Moore spent 14 of his 15 big-league years with the Brewers, shuttling between catcher and right field, and on October 1, 1980 he hit for the cycle and stole two bases against the Angels in the same game, the first player in modern history to do both. Moved to right field in 1982, he threw out Reggie Jackson at third to help close out that year's ALCS, then hit .346 in the World Series loss to St. Louis. He retired with a .261 average, 36 homers and 408 RBIs, joining the Brewers Wall of Honor in 2014.
