About Don Hahn
Don Hahn broke into pro ball as a 17th-round pick of the San Francisco Giants in the 1966 draft out of Campbell High School in Campbell, California, then reached the majors with the expansion Montreal Expos on April 8, 1969, starting in center field for the franchise's first-ever game. Dealt to the Mets just before the 1971 season, in the trade that sent 1969 World Series hero Ron Swoboda to Montreal, the right-handed-hitting outfielder became New York's regular center fielder, valued more for his glove than his bat. He held down center for the pennant-winning 1973 Mets, starting all 12 of their postseason games in the run to a seven-game World Series loss to Oakland, and that July survived a violent outfield collision with George Theodore that altered his teammate's career. The Mets traded Hahn to Philadelphia that December, though his 1975 Topps card (#182) still pictures him as a Met. He closed out his six-year career in 1975 with St. Louis and San Diego, batting .236 with seven homers.
