About Harry Parker

Harry William Parker broke into pro ball in 1965 as a fourth-round pick of the Cardinals out of Collinsville, Illinois, and reached the majors with St. Louis in 1970. Traded to the Mets in an eight-player deal that October, the 6-foot-3 right-hander became a valuable swingman on the 1973 "Ya Gotta Believe" club, going 8-4 with a 3.35 ERA in 38 games as New York rallied from last place to the National League pennant. Parker worked all four of his 1973 postseason outings in relief, posting a 2.08 ERA with three scoreless appearances in the World Series against Oakland, though he lost in extra innings in both rounds - surrendering Pete Rose's twelfth-inning homer that forced a decisive NLCS Game 5, then the eleventh-inning run that beat the Mets in World Series Game 3. His 1975 Topps card, #214, captures his final season in Queens before a midyear trade sent him back to St. Louis; he closed out his six-year career with Cleveland in 1976.
