About Leo Foster
Leo Foster, born Leonard Norris Foster in Covington, Kentucky, was chosen by the Atlanta Braves in the second round of the 1969 amateur draft out of Holmes High School. He debuted at shortstop for Atlanta on July 9, 1971, in one of the more unlucky first games in major-league history: an error on the first ball hit to him, a double play in the fifth inning, and a triple play in the seventh. Foster split his career between the Braves (1971, 1973-74) and the New York Mets (1976-77), working shortstop, second base, and third base over five big-league seasons. A light-hitting utility infielder, he finished with a .198 average, 2 home runs, and 26 RBI in 144 games. His 1975 Topps card, #418, catches him mid-career with Atlanta, a snapshot of a journeyman's brief major-league stay.
