About Maximino Leon

Maximino León Molina broke into pro ball at 17, throwing 27 games for the Fresnillo Mineros of the Mexican Center League in 1967. By 1972 he was an ace for the Charros de Jalisco, going 17-7 with a 3.22 ERA in the Mexican League, numbers that drew the Atlanta Braves to sign him as a free agent that July. He debuted in the majors on July 18, 1973, and stuck for good in 1974, pitching out of the Atlanta bullpen alongside Hank Aaron in Aaron's final Braves season. León's 1975 Topps card, #442, caught him in his third big-league year, when he went 2-1 with a 4.13 ERA and six saves in 50 relief outings. He remained an Atlanta reliever and spot starter through 1978, finishing 14-18 with a 3.71 ERA, 13 saves and 170 strikeouts over six seasons. Sold to Durango afterward, León pitched across the Mexican League and Mexican Pacific League for the better part of a decade, and in 1997 was inducted into the Mexican Professional Baseball Hall of Fame.
