1960 Topps #264 Robin Roberts

About Robin Roberts
Robin Roberts anchored the Philadelphia Phillies' pitching staff for fourteen seasons, debuting in 1948 and developing into the National League's most dominant right-hander from 1950 through 1955, when he won 20 or more games every year. In 1950 he clinched the pennant for the "Whiz Kids" with a season-ending, 10-inning win over Brooklyn on the final day of the season, then started Game 2 of that year's World Series against the Yankees. Roberts led the NL in wins four straight years (1952-55), started 28 consecutive complete games spanning 1952-53, and finished with 286 career wins, 305 complete games, and 2,357 strikeouts across stops with Baltimore, Houston, and the Cubs. A seven-time All-Star, he had his uniform No. 36 retired by the Phillies in 1962, the first number the franchise ever retired. Roberts was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1976. His 1960 Topps card, #264 in the set, catches him late in his Phillies tenure, a decade after his debut.
