About Balor Moore
Balor Lilbon Moore, a hard-throwing left-hander out of Deer Park, Texas, was the very first player the expansion Montreal Expos drafted, taken 22nd overall in 1969. He raced through the minors and debuted for Montreal on May 21, 1970, at 19 years and 116 days old - still the youngest player in franchise history - facing Willie Stargell in his first appearance. After a year of military service, Moore broke through in 1972, going 9-6 down the stretch with a 2.94 ERA, a run that included a 25-inning scoreless streak snapped only by Mike Schmidt's first career home run. That winter he threw a perfect game for San Juan in the Puerto Rican League. Control problems undercut a strong 1973 (7-16 despite ranking second in the NL in strikeouts per nine), and elbow surgery after 1974 slowed him further. By his 1975 Topps card, Moore was a 24-year-old Expos southpaw rebuilding; he later pitched for the Angels and Blue Jays before retiring in 1980 with a 28-48 record, a 4.52 ERA, and 496 strikeouts over eight seasons.
