About Dave Freisleben
David James Freisleben, born October 31, 1951, in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, pitched for the San Diego Padres, Cleveland Indians, and Toronto Blue Jays from 1974 to 1979. The Padres drafted him out of Sam Rayburn High School in the fifth round of the 1971 draft, and he was named Texas League Pitcher of the Year in 1972 after going 17-9 with a 2.32 ERA for Alexandria. Freisleben reached San Diego in 1974, beating Steve Carlton and the Phillies in his debut and joining a young rotation with Bill Greif, Randy Jones, and Dan Spillner. During his rookie season, he held Cincinnati's Big Red Machine scoreless for 13 innings in a game the Padres eventually won 1-0. His 1975 Topps card (#37) caught him in his second full season, a tough 5-14 campaign that included one of the hardest-luck starts in Padres history against the Reds. He finished his six-year career 34-60 with a 4.30 ERA and 430 strikeouts.
